Oryza nivara - Indian wild rice
Oryza nivara, a wild progenitor of cultivated rice (Oryza sativa), is endemic to South and South East Asia. It is one of the five known diploid ‘A’ genome wild species of rice and a large number of accessions of this species are available in gene bank collections. This wild rice is found growing in swampy areas, at edge of ponds and tanks, in ditches and in or around rice fields.
