The challenges of conserving CWR within and outside protected areas are explored in an <link cmsdata.iucn.org/downloads/parks_hunter.pdf _blank external-link-new-window "Opens external link in new window">article</link> appearing in the new issue of <link www.iucn.org/about/work/programmes/gpap_home/gpap_capacity2/gpap_parks2/ _blank external-link-new-window "Opens external link in new window">Parks magazine</link>. Authors describe the many challenges faced by CWR practitioners in putting CWR conservation into practice and provide examples from around the world of protected area that have successfully taken CWR conservation on board in their protected area management plans. However, in the future, protected areas alone may not be sufficient to afford CWR the protection they need and the article concludes by recommending the creation of a global network of protected areas and corridors to maximize the conservation effectiveness of these species in the wild.
